Sister Carrie, a novel set in urban Chicago and New York, relates the "rags to riches" story of Carrie Meeber.  From sweatshop servant to stage success, her journey is full of difficulties from unemployment to unhappy "marriage" to unsatisfied social life.

 

Throughout her journey, she comes in contact with several characters that play pivotal roles in her life and in the lives of those around her.
