Minnie, Carrie's older sister, is a twenty-seven year old woman whose experiences in Chicago have transformed her into a rugged individual. Busy with the role of a poor housewife, she opens her home to Carrie even though her husband resists the idea. She worries about Carrie's well being, both physical and mental, and is aware of Carrie's disatisfaction with life and seems to understand Carrie's excessive buying while discouraging her tendency to buy on impulse.
